The Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Honourable Premila Kumar visited the National Fire Authority (NFA), and met its Board members and senior management team.
The visit, which was a familiarisation tour, enabled Honourable Kumar to understand more and in depth the roles, functions and operations of the NFA.
Whilst addressing the management team, Honourable Kumar encouraged them to thoroughly analyse data on fire incidents and provide information on specific areas in Fiji, which are vulnerable to fires.
“I urge you to thoroughly compile and analyse data on fire incidents around the country. And while you are doing that, also analyse which parts of Fiji are more vulnerable to fire incidents and why.”
“This exercise is crucial as it will not only benefit the NFA, but also members of the public. It will create awareness amongst members of the community and give them a sense of responsibility and preparedness. For the NFA, this information will greatly assist your operations and enable you to be more effective and efficient,” stated Honourable Kumar.
The Minister also encouraged the NFA management team to work closely with other agencies in supporting areas of ease of doing business in Fiji and also emphasised the important role the Board plays in ensuring that systems and processes are in place whilst issuing NFA licenses.
“I encourage you to work closely with your stakeholders and other agencies to efficiently and effectively deliver what is required of you. Think outside the box and challenge yourselves to come up with ways to further improve your standard of service delivery. In order for you to do that, it is important that you work closely with your stakeholders,” Honourable Kumar said.
