In a heartfelt address delivered during a dinner hosted by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala, Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs, and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, extended his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Tonga for their generous hospitality during an official visit that marks a significant moment in Fiji-Tonga relations.

Hon. Kamikamica paid special tribute to the Acting Prime Minister of Tonga, thanking him for the warm welcome, the honour of the visit, and the gracious dinner reception.

Speaking with genuine affection and familiarity, the Deputy Prime Minister reflected on his two-year tenure in Tonga, expressing joy at witnessing the country’s continued progress, particularly the encouraging growth of local businesses. These signs, he noted, are evidence of the enduring impact of past bilateral cooperation and the resilience of the Tongan people.

“There is a genuine sense of shared purpose when you return to a place that once felt like home,” Hon. Kamikamica remarked. “Tonga’s success is a testament to its people’s hard work and the strength of our regional partnerships.”

Looking ahead, the Deputy Prime Minister championed a call for regional cooperation, urging Pacific nations to work more closely together to meet shared aspirations.

“Our ancestors voyaged these oceans together. Today, our call is not of paddles and sails, but of unity and purpose,” he declared.

“As island nations, we understand that progress is not achieved in isolation,” Hon. Kamikamica said. “Let us continue to build on our shared heritage to achieve a future that is prosperous, sustainable, and grounded in mutual respect.”

The dinner and accompanying engagements represent not only a strengthening of diplomatic bonds but also a shared vision for Pacific solidarity in an increasingly interconnected world.
