Tokyo, Japan (30/5/25) – A deepen cooperation in digital infrastructure and cybersecurity between Fiji and Malaysia has gained momentum following a high-level talks aimed at advancing shared goals in connectivity and online safety.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Hon Manoa Kamikamica led the Fiji delegation in a bilateral meeting (30/5/25) with Malaysia’s Minister for Communications His Excellency Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil, along the margins of the APT Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo, Japan and expressed Fiji’s interest in Malaysia approach to hybrid connectivity, secure communications, and digital ID system.
The DPM note that Malaysia’s experience offers lesson Fiji hopes to adapt, especially for extending services to remote areas.

mme, which delivers internet access to underserved communities, and detailed the role of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in digital policing and licensing.
Both sides saw potential for collaboration on secure communications protocols and cybersecurity strategies.
The Ministers acknowledged long standing ties between the two countries dating back to shared military history, and agreed to explore a formal Memorandum of U
nderstanding to guide future cooperation.
Fiji at the invitation of the Malaysian Government, is expected to participate in the Malaysia- hosted digital forums such as the M360, the Digital National Platform and the Regulators Roundtable in Kuala Lumpur.
The meeting reaffirmed both Government’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion, online safety, and regulatory resilience, with a shared vision of leveraging digital technology for sustainable growth.
