Fiji is stepping up efforts to become the Pacific’s digital outsourcing powerhouse, with Government unveiling plans for a major BPO infrastructure project and a renewed push to strengthen industry collaboration.
In a meeting with Mr. Joseva Wivou, the Executive Director of Outsource Fiji, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs, and Communications Hon. Manoa Kamikamica deliberated the strategic direction of the country’s growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry.Elaborating on Fiji’s direction in the BPO sector, DPM Kamikamica said the planned development of a new BPO Hub at the Kalabu Tax Free Zone, described as a BPO village, will be a one-stop digital area offering high-speed connectivity, lifestyle facilities, and support infrastructure to attract international investors and provide a thriving environment for local talent.
“This is a first-of-its-kind development for the region,” said DPM Kamikamica. “We are not just building infrastructure—we’re shaping a future-ready digital ecosystem for Fiji and the Pacific.”
The meeting also reviewed progress following the recent Annual General Meeting of the BPO Council, which marked a transition in leadership and renewed efforts to grow membership and unify the sector. Fiji currently hosts around eight active BPO operators, but industry leaders are targeting to more than double that figure over the coming years.
“We’ve seen four or five new BPO players enter the market in recent months,” said Hon Kamikamica. “The momentum is real, but we need better alignment in data, messaging, and investment support to sustain and scale this growth.”
The DPM reaffirmed Government’s support, stating that BPO growth is key to delivering on the National Digital Strategy and creating meaningful pathways for youth employment.
“The BPO sector is one of Fiji’s most promising economic engines,” he said. “It brings jobs, innovation, and hope, especially for our young people looking for opportunities in the digital economy.”
Fiji’s outsourcing sector is rapidly expanding, driven by the nation’s competitive cost structure, highly skilled talent pool, and strong cultural compatibility with major global markets.
With major developments in the pipeline and increased public-private collaboration, Fiji is well-positioned to evolve into a billion-dollar BPO industry and a digital leader in the region.
