ROLE DESCRIPTION:   Systems Administrator

CORPORATE INFORMATION

2. Salary Range: $28,605.45 – $32,038.10 Band G
3. Duty Station: Suva
4. Reporting Responsibilities.
5. a) Reports To: Systems Team Lead
6. b) Liaises with: Technicians, System Administrators, System Engineers

POSITION PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of servers, its hardware components, storage devices and other system related components at the Fijian Government Datacenter. This also includes system design, configuration and recommendation. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all server software and associated operating systems.

KEY DUTIES

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties while working with relevant staff and service providers, in accordance with legislative requirements:

1. Provide hardware and maintenance support for servers, storage and other system related components;
2. Installation, configuration and implementation of new server equipment. This includes installation of Operating Systems and required baseline Software as part of hosting environment preparation;
3. Monitor and physically check server, storage and other hardware equipment to ensure that all are fault free and any issues are identified and attended to;
4. Provide recommendation for new server hardware requirement as part of new solutions (either on Tender or for IT refresh purpose); decommissioning of any server or- ICT hardware equipment (BOS) on GOVNET – as and when required.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Performance will be measured through the following indicators:

1. Server and storage hardware resources are maintained and operating optimally with the required uptime.
2. New hardware’s are commissioned efficiently and hosting requests are provisioned in a timely manner with proper documentations;
3. Hardware checks are conducted thoroughly on a regular basis to ensure services and systems uptime;
4. All server recommendations, BOS Report and other related documentations are provided in a timely manner;

PERSON SPECIFICATION

In addition to Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology/Computer Science, Net-Centric, or an IT related field from a recognized institution Or equivalent with relevant work experience, the following Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities required to successfully undertake this role are:

Knowledge and Experience

1. 2 or more years of relevant IT & networking work exp
2. Knowledge of network and systems protocols and standards, including Active Directory, Group Policies, basic Switching/Routing, SAN, Virtualization, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery
3. Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, desktop, laptop, and printer; storage devices such as Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS);
4. Experience supporting a hybrid IT infrastructure environment, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
5. Ability to carry out backup and restoration work using backup software’s

Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated ability to install and implement new server hardware, monitor and provide technical fix for any issue, and escalate when matters are beyond;
2. Demonstrated ability of managing and administering servers on virtual machines (VMs) using any hypervisor;
3. Demonstrated ability of high caliber to perform all functions according to guidelines and procedures and effectively work within a team and be able to meet strict deadline
4. Effective technical evaluation and must have strong written communication

Personal Character

Applicants for employment must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the Civil Service Values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be Fijian Citizens, under age 60 years, in sound health and with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance prior to taking up duty.
